A few of the major players in the beer industry, Molson Coors and Anheuser Busch, are so successful that some of America’s favorite sports teams play in stadiums and arenas bearing their brand names. But does that mean that the major companies are dominating the beer industry as a whole? That’s a common assumption, but in America, craft beer companies are beginning to take a significant share of the market.

Nearly 1,000 breweries were opened across the country in 2017, and that number is expected to continue to rise year after year. It’s important to recognize that a microbrewery is not technically the same as the brew pubs that were so popular 10 years ago. A microbrewery makes “craft beer” and aims to distribute their product instead of just selling it out of their own establishment. This reduction in overhead and subsequent gain in efficiency allows even the smallest microbreweries to compete against the largest brewery companies.
